Very good food, but pretty pricey. For as expensive as it was I really could have done with some more french fries and coleslaw to make up for the price

Fabulous seafood. First seafood place I have seen in quite some time that left skin on fish, allowing positive ID of the species of whitefish Scallops were definitely fresh, dry pack 20-30 count sea scallop. Both broiled to perfection in a fantastic lobster bisque. The Mrs. Had bbq chicken & ribs with the works of side dishes. The only thing that would have improved the fall off the bone ribs would have been peeling the membrane from the back.. All was good. Much of the food was worth writing home about. This certified chef and fishmonger gives the definite thumbs up and would willing to wait for seating anytime.8

A really good local place for seafood. They have plenty of variety and the service is good. The only real issue is the parking lot.

I was very disappointed with my experience here. Around 5 years ago I was here and food and service was fantastic. This past weekend was the exact opposite. Very over priced. My boyfriends shrimp was so overcooked. I got the scallops, they were good but was ridiculouly priced. Definitely wasnt worth the price. Unfortunately I wont go back next time Im up there. Planning another trip next month and I will pass this place up.

Had an amazing BIRTHDAY dinner! The best sea food dinner ever! Wonderful service with a smile from Nicole. Amazing desserts also. So glad we took a chance on a new venue for my birthday. We will be back.

The food was good. Didn't feel they were social distancing well and felt a bit uncomfortable in such tight quarters.

Small, homey restaurant that looks like nothing from the outside. The salads took too long to arrive but were good. The bread was simple but excellent. Crabcake appetizer was very good even if the sauce was served in a plastic container. Crab stuffed shrimp with rice was merely ok.

First off, the renovation is beautiful! The food is also incredible, like... really really incredible. Between the local wine and the fresh seafood you can’t go wrong. The haddock and scallops in lobster bisque is off the charts. Came out piping hot and fresh and with a side of twice baked potatoes it is beyond comfort food! It’s also a great price for the amount of food. All 5 of us had nothing but awesome things to say. Try an appetizer with a glass of wine; smoked salmon and calamari were great as well!

When in Ashtabula, eat here! It's a small town restaurant, homey and not fancy. The dining area is not very big, but every table was occupied...always a good sign. The service was great. The food was amazing! I had the salmon and my husband had the haddock topped with lobster bisque. We also had a cup of soup each...clam chowder, and a fish chowder. We loved it all! We will definitely eat at Hil-Mak again.

Best seafood within an hour driving distance from Ashtabula. Love the fish market options to cook at home. Restaurant isn't very large table wise but the experience is always fun. Great food and so much to choose from. Non seafood eaters will enjoy the steaks. Make a reservation if you can for weekend nights.

I had crab cakes that was supposed to be jumbo lump the biggest lump I found was about the size of a green bean. Guess I have to change my idea of jumbo lump.

Excellent restaurant to dine. Very clean, very well organized. Management, and waiter's/ waitresses very nice. The food is fresh, and delicious. Great for all ages. Also if you are in a rush, head around the corner to the carry-out. Grab a perch sandwich, fries, fried mushrooms. They have just about every fish you would be looking for, Shrimp, Scallops, oysters. The take out dinners are excellent!

Had an exquisite first visit here!! Extremely impressed. Had a friend drive an hour so we could try them out. The staff was amazing! Very knowledgeable and attentive. The food was beyond our expectations, freshest seafood I've had in a very long time. The atmosphere was quaint, casual, but warm and welcoming. The prices were VERY reasonable for the high quality of food and service. This is a meal and experience we will be talking about for years. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Will definitely be coming back, and will bring more newbies to try it out!! Very well done, Hil-Mak!!!

I visited this business today my at approximately 3pm. I've experienced good service and great food until today. I entered the carry out store and placed two iced tea's on the counter. The male ignored me and assisted two other patrons who came in after me. After assiting the second customer the male worker turned and and started to walk away, I actually asked him if he saw me standing there, and if I could buy the drinks, this man rolled his eyes, sighed, and told me drinks would be $5.00. I returned the drinks to the cooler, and left the store. After giving them my business for over 5 years, I will never purchase anything from them in the future.

New owners have been fantastic. Have gone over and beyond to make existing staff comfortable and happy to be there. The food is excellent and the remodel and new driveway are beautiful. They got hit with unprecedented times with Covid but have worked hard to keep everything going smooth and delicious.

The new owners did a wonderful job updating the look of the building. The food is fantastic. The staff is amazing. The prices are reasonable. Did I mention the food is fantastic?

Visited 7/16/2020 around 6pm. We all enjoyed our meals which consisted of: New England Chowder, Beer battered Haddock, Haddock & Scallops in a Lobster Bisque and thirdly an Icelandic Scrod dish. Olivia was attentive and timely as our waitress. Food was very hot and cooked well. New decor was pleasant. Prices were generally what they have always been (a little high) but not unexpected for well prepared seafood plus, the portions were generous. The Lake Erie Perch did have a surcharge ($25). Not quite 5 stars due to the loud acoustics. Some softer materials would help here. Go early to beat the crowds hence the noise.

Great burger! My mom recommended this place to me and my sister. I'm not a seafood fan, so there's only so much love I can give to a seafood restaurant, however, I really enjoyed dinner here and my over all experience. My burger was well seasoned, juicy, and a large serving. I could have probably, just had half of it. My mom said it was delicious as well. Both my mom and my sister said the fish is VERY good. I trust them, they know their fish. Our waitress was so helpful, attentive, and overall, an absolute delight. I'm definitely visiting again!

Took my parents to Hil-Mak for dinner. I had never been there and the rest of my party had years ago. We go to order and they are out of chicken, ribs, the delmonico steak that was on special so me being a non fish eater had to figure out something else. They managed to scrounge up a piece of fried chicken for a sandwich. The food was not worth the money we paid. I felt bad for the waitresses having to tell everyone everything they were out of. I understand that are under new ownership but if you don't have anything on the menu then just stay closed until you do.

We went the store, not the restaurant. Great selection, good service. Purchased fried clams and haddock sandwich...delicious! Ate down by the water.

I usually just go to the market and I've never had a bad experience. Highly recommend them. Great food. Great people.

Worst experience EVER at Hil-Mak. Not the 'yesterday's' restauramt I remember.Small portions, plain vanilla food, cold red wine, poor service, entree that was served wasn't what was ordered........too bad. I always counted on well prepared sea food :-(

Amazing place to take the kids. Very nice people and great choice of food. I recommend the Shrimp Tsunami. And their clam chowder is delicious

SERVING THE FINEST SEAFOOD MONEY CAN BUY! Quick friendly service satisfying your every desire. Servers are very eager to please. We chose Thai calamari to share as an appetizer which was a bit rubbery but very flavorful. Fried perch was delicious. Sea scallops & shrimp in a cream & wine sauce over linguini was o.k.-thinner sauce would be preferable but seafood prepared perfectly. We'd go back again for certain! Well worth the wait to be seated. FRESH SEAFOOD is hard to find and THEY'VE GOT IT!

Food was fantastic. Jamie, our server was excellent. Recommended a great wine. We enjoyed the evening very much. Just think the atmosphere could be updated.
